Homeless Veterans Farm Project – Macon County NC
This was at the Macon County annual Veterans Stand Down where Linda Herman and I had a booth yesterday.
I am envisioning this project to be in 100 rural areas across the USA!
As I told Mia, editor of the Franklin Press, I am only a facilitator of this project for each location not the leader. I want it to be owned by the community and not me.
Here is what I have shared with Macon County for the 15-20 acres home for 12 homeless veterans for the 6 month program:
*Alcohol/drug rehabilitation with Christian counseling
*Financial literacy
*Teaching how to get a job
*Raising chickens as my friend Linda has done for years
*Growing a garden
I met the late Bernie Marcus, co-founder of Home Depot, and they have committed to hiring 100,000 veterans over the next few years. The head of employees relations is a veteran Navy pilot herself. Bernie said before his passing away that he had committed his vast financial wealth to the building of 20 PTSD centers across the USA. I would like to see our farms close to those centers.
